What Are the Most Common Causes of Fires in the Workplace?
1/11/2023 (Permalink)
Most people are concerned with fire prevention in their homes, but it’s also vital to consider potential fires in the workplace. There were 123 fatalities due to injuries from fires and explosions in 2021, per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Offices, restaurants, hotels, and other facilities are full of potential fire hazards. To avoid fires and costly fire restoration, it’s important to be aware of these dangers. The following are some of the most common causes of workplace fires that your business should prevent.
3 Common Causes of Workplace Fires
1. Flammable Materials
If you work in an industry that uses flammable materials like propane, natural gas, or combustible vapors, be sure to handle storage well. If these substances ever come in contact with a flame, they could start a fire or even cause an explosion. These significant accidents can make fire restoration more difficult. Protect your workers by properly storing flammable substances away from electrical sources.
2. Faulty Electrical Wiring
Electrical equipment is one of the top causes of workplace fires. If the wiring is old or damaged, it could overheat and combust. Overloaded outlets could also be a hazard, leading to major damage requiring fire restoration. To prevent fires caused by defective wiring, be sure to have your business’s electrical work inspected regularly. You should also avoid overloading circuits and talk to an electrical professional about how to best arrange electronics. Create policies to prevent employees from using risky high-wattage or high-heat appliances like personal space heaters in the office.
3. Negligence
Many fires happen due to accidents and human error. This could include improper disposal of cigarettes at a work site or leaving an open flame unattended. Your business may also have outdated fire safety measures or hard-to-reach fire extinguishers, causing a small flame to turn into a powerful blaze. To avoid fires due to negligence, be sure that all of your employees are well-versed in fire safety and response.
If you need fire restoration after a workplace incident, call the team at SERVPRO of Flagler County. We offer water damage restoration, fire restoration, water extraction, mold remediation, and emergency cleaning services for Florida residents and businesses. We will customize a plan to fit your needs, so you can move on with your life as soon as possible. Call us at 386-447-2202 to schedule an appointment.

When it comes to commercial fires, there’s always a risk of fire for a number of reasons. As a matter of fact, a fire occurs in a structure at the rate of one every 64 seconds, and a home fire occurs every 89 seconds. This is according to the National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA). If your business experiences a fire, it’s best to call in commercial restoration experts like SERVPRO of Flagler County to help restore your Palm Coast, FL home!
How fires occur in commercial buildings
NFPA research has found that structure fires accounted for 20% of the fires, but 49% of related deaths, 80% of injuries, and 67% of property damage. How do fires occur in commercial buildings? The five most common causes of fires in commercial buildings are cooking equipment, heating equipment, electrical and lighting equipment, smoking materials, and intentional fire setting. Regardless of the cause, a serious fire in a business is catastrophic and costly to the building, the business itself, and the customers it serves.

What Ducts?
2/1/2021 (Permalink)
When homeowners and business owners think about running their homes and businesses duct cleaning is not at the forefront of their mind. While duct cleanings may not seem very important if not done on time they could reek havoc down the line.
Duct cleanings should be done annually. Winter and fall are the best times to have these services done. These times of the year are less busy for businesses and easier to close for a day or half day depending on the size of the business and building.
If not done on time it could cause a backup of dust, dirt, lint, and moisture. If these things are left alone for an unknown amount of times it could cause a fire or growth and mildew that could grow harmful.
We love to see return customers and would love to set up an appointment for your home or business for a duct cleaning today. Give us a call to get on the schedule today!

What does mold look like for you?
9/25/2020 (Permalink)
Whether it be in a home or a commercial building a water damage or mold could look similar or completely different depending on the side effects and size of the building.
In your home you are cleaning it and tidying it multiple times a week and will notice any discoloration or growth that may start to appear. Your home, unless it is hidden, should be more easily able to catch an instance to reduce the damage.
At your commercial business it could be much harder to catch due to the size and who maybe cleaning it. If your building is being cleaned by another company, the hopes would be that they would alert you to anything that does not look right. If they do not you will need to be alert to notice any discoloration, growth, or abnormalities.
If there is ever anything in question and you are wondering, you should always have it checked out. We do free estimate and are always happy to come and take a look for you.

Being in charge of a large building or business certain responsibilities fall on you that you may not have thought of. What are you going to do if a disaster strikes a building or business you are in charge of?
Do you have a plan in place with procedures and protocols?
Do you have that handy and in a neatly organized place to help when you are frantic and in a panic?
Hopefully, this answer will put you at ease, you don't have to have all the answers. Our trained sales team can come out and walk you through the steps from start to finish.
We will start by coming out and accessing any possible measures that could happen to your building weather from an inside source, or a natural disaster.
We will then make an appointment to walk with either the property manager or the maintenance manager to take pictures, make shut off valves clearly, know where to park out vehicles when we arrive on site and finally who to contact.
This will all be put into a neat binder step by step what to do on your side and for our side, so we maintain promptness and understanding in these stressful situations.

Dos and Don'ts of Emergency Situations
9/27/2019 (Permalink)
Whether you are a property manger, maintenance coordinator or office manager it is important to know who has what duty in an emergency.
You DO want to have a plan in place, with delegated duties ahead of time to ease the process.
These duties should include things like who calls SERVPRO, who lets tenants know, and where the emergency response team can meet.
You DON'T want to be left stranded without a plan in place when disaster strikes. This can lead to more damage and a longer rebuilding process.
You DO want to have enough emergency supplies available for those who would need to stay in the office during a natural disaster.
These thing should contain water, food, flash lights, and battery powered radio.
You DON'T want to have your employees leave the office in the middle of a natural disaster to go home, because of lack of supplies.
In any situation you want to be as prepared as possible to have the safest environment for yourself and your staff.
In emergency water, fire, or mold situation remember to call SERVPRO.
Have you had your ducts cleaned lately?
6/20/2019 (Permalink)
In a large business it is hard to keep track of everything that needs regular cleaning. Having your ducts cleaned annually is important for both the health of the building and the health of those working there.
Ducts can harbor dust, bugs, and growth if left go on too long. The ducts can also show the state of the building and the condition of the air system as well. You may be able to see condensation as well as growth that let you know something else needs to be taken care of.
Cleaning the ducts in your business is little to no work for the building owner, other than setting the appointment. Trained technicians come in and remove all vent covers, use a special rotating brush and machine to thoroughly clean each air way and finally seal and sanitize everything to finish-up this thorough cleaning. Finally we will put all of the covers back on. Depending on the size of the building it can take anywhere from a few hour up to, two days to complete.
Your Building and your employees will thank you for clean, and breathable air. Keep records as they can be valuable if any work on the building is needed or eventually a sale takes place.

6/19/2019 (Permalink)

These are all very important questions to have the answers to before a disaster strikes or is looming. Here we want to list the most important things to have taken care of before the situation comes about.

Common Hazards in Commercial Properties
2/5/2019 (Permalink)
There are many things with a commercial property that can arise and cause issue. There are also a few things that you can do as an owner or a property manager to keep your risks low and prevent possible damages.
- Automatic Sprinkler System - Having an automatic sprinkler system installed can quickly reduce any damages caused by a fire erupting during anytime of the day or night.
- Upkeep of maintenance - Any broken window or crack in drywall can quickly lead to an issue and become a long term event if not taken care of.
- Lose debris - Having any lose debris or garbage piled up can lead to fines, damage, and even attract critters. Keeping all areas neat and tidy will easily reduce these risks.
- Dust Build-up - Make sure to keep all ducts and laundry vents clean. Best practice for a commercial building is to have both cleaned annually to keep the maintenance up on them.
These are some of the most common hazards known to commercial properties but also some of the easiest to reduce the risk on. Some of these items SERVPRO can even help and take care of. For your annual duct and vent cleaning give us a call to schedule today!

A freezer unit in the store had a mechanical issue causing it to catch fire in the Aldi's grocery store on this particular Thursday morning. Luckily no one was in the store when it happened.
When crews arrived on Thursday morning there was smoke coming from the building letting the workers know there was something going on. The power company was notified but never needed to shut off the power.
As a result of the fire, crews worked diligently to clean up the damage and placed equipment to also improve air quality in the building so that it was safe for both workers and customers.
In order to maintain the stores normal working hours crews worked after hours to stay out of the way of workers and customers during the day.
The management team in the store was very happy with the work done and will be returning for any other damage in the future.

Hurricane Preparation for Commercial Businesses
8/28/2018 (Permalink)
In business, preparation is a vital component to survival. This is true for every aspect of your operation and while business owners prepare for all manner of financial upheavals, one area they tend to neglect is property damage – in particular property damage related to severe weather such as a hurricane, tropical storm, or tornado.
While you can’t control where a tropical storm or hurricane touches down, you can develop some disaster recovery plans that can help mitigate property damage and downtime due to the severe weather associated with this tropical activity. For starters, we recommend gathering your most valued employees and coming up with a disaster recovery strategy. Figure out crucial tasks to undertake before a hurricane strikes, and determine who will be responsible for them.
Typical disaster preparation strategies include backing up critical data and sensitive client information. Make sure you keep a back-up of your information off-site or on an outsourced server in the event your building receives critical damage.
Just like you would prepare your home for a hurricane, you should also take the same precautions, where possible, to secure your business to protect it from wind and water damage. Putting up storm shutters or boarding up windows is a good start. You should also secure or store any outdoor items on your property that may become a safety hazard when gale force winds descend.
As we noted above, property damage is only part of the concern when it comes to a hurricane. Loss of electricity and structural damage can cause downtime for your business. This downtime can last anywhere from a few hours to weeks – or longer. Having a secondary location where you can set up a temporary business can help you continue operations. If possible, you may want to consider setting up a system whereby employees can work remotely. This could be a cheaper alternative to opening a second office. Just make sure your critical information and network access is secure and only available to appropriate team members.
Along the same token, you want to keep the lines of communication open with your employees, vendors, and clients. Prepare your customers for any alternate contact information or locations, and if you suspect a slow-down in service, be forthcoming and let your clients know what to expect.
Finally, at the start of hurricane season, meet with your insurance agent and review your property and business insurance to make sure you are fully covered for any realistic scenarios. If you do experience property damage, content damage, or need the assistance of a disaster recovery service, SERVPRO of Flagler County / NSB- Titusville will help mitigate your losses and be an invaluable resource to get your business back up and running.

Restoring Your Commercial Property
6/6/2017 (Permalink)
Working to restore this Flagler Beach business.
Many of our customers at SERVPRO of Flagler County are pleasantly surprised to find that we are a licensed general contractor. We work closely with home and business owners to remodel or restore their properties after a loss. When its time to choose a contractor, these are some great questions to ask.
Are you licensed and insured?
The only acceptable answer to this question is yes. Any sign of hesitation or misdirection is a clear indication that you should look elsewhere for a contractor.
What type of experience do you have in this industry?
The construction industry has many facets, and expertise in one does not guarantee proficiency in others. The goal is to determine the skills the general contractor as well as how long they have been providing the services that interest you.
Who do you work with?
General contractors don’t work in a vacuum. Do they have established relationships with local subcontractors and suppliers? Are they familiar with the local regulations and building codes and the inspectors who enforce them? Hiring a contractor who has strong connections with the local professional network ensures that they have access to the resources necessary to complete your project smoothly.
How will communication be handled?
Communication is a vital factor in almost any relationship. If you have a question or concern, how do you contact your contractor? Can you expect regular progress reports? Who should you speak with if there’s a problem?

Prepare Your Business for the Worst Now
4/28/2017 (Permalink)
The time to prepare is before disaster strikes.
Did you know, one of the easiest ways to protect your employees during severe weather is to have a weather radio in your business? A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather radio is just as important as having a fire alarm. A weather radio is designed to alert you to dangerous weather situations such as an approaching tornado. It allows you to be warned ahead of approaching storms providing you time to seek shelter. A weather radio is the most reliable source for weather alerts.
There are many different weather radios available for purchase, but there are a few key features to consider before selecting one. The following are the most important features to look for in a weather radio.
- Reviewable alerts (you can scroll through alerts and turn off the siren for alerts and turn off the siren for alerts you do not wish to hear)
- Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) alert programming (alert when specific counties are threatened, ensuring you only receive alerts for your county).
- Ease of programming.
Most major retailers and online stores offer weather radios with these features for around $30. If you need assistance programming your weather radio, contact your local National Weather Service Office. For additional information, including county codes for your state, visit the NOAA Weather Radio website at www.nws.noaa.gov/nwr
The best way to reduce business interruption following a disaster is to plan for it now. To help prepare your commercial space or business, contact SERVPRO of Flagler County to take advantage of the Emergency Ready Profile program. Flood Damage in a Hammock School
2/8/2017 (Permalink)
Emergency Preparation Helps Prevent Storm Damage
SERVPRO Coordinates Water and Fire Cleanup in Many Municipal Buildings
Having an automatic sprinkler system in a high school building is a critical aspect of fire protection. If they are tested, inspected and maintained properly, they properly work as needed during a fire. Whether a fire occurs or the system malfunctions and releases water for no reason, the flood damage which results can be extensive. Now you need to search for a “reliable water remediation company near me.” SERVPRO is one such company who can come to your property and help you mitigate any flood damage.
Even though these malfunctions and commercial flood damage are rare in Hammock, they do happen occasionally. It could be because of a manufacturing defect, or even pranksters who trip the system by holding a lighter to the sprinkler head, or from the head of a sprinkler being hit and damaged, causing a discharge. When the fire department is called to put out a fire, the water damage which results can be throughout the entire school wing or building.
Thankfully, water damage from fire responders and the system discharging water are covered by a lot of commercial property insurance policies. Coverage includes standard forms of the Insurance Services Office. When it is an accidental discharge, basic commercial property insurance usually covers the cost to repair damage to the system if the damage causes results in the sprinkler leaking. The cost to replace and tear out any section of the building to repair the damage is covered as well. Municipal blanket insurance policies may differ from typical commercial policies.
Insurance policies require you as the insured to take steps after experiencing flood damage. Protecting the school from further damage, giving fast notice of the loss, giving an inventory of damaged items and property, and making damaged property open for inspection are tasks you are expected to perform. SERVPRO technicians can come in shortly after you contact them to assess damages and draw up a plan of remediation. We also work with the insurance company; SERVPRO has relationships with hundreds of government entities and can help.
When the sprinklers in your high school building have malfunctioned for any reason and caused flooding damage, you need to act quickly and get in touch with SERVPRO of Flagler County so that we can begin cleanup right away. The sooner you reach us at (386) 447-2202, the sooner we clean up the mess and prevent any additional damages so that the school can be up and running properly again.

Alternatively, almost just as common, breaks in pipes or poorly maintained fixtures cause fresh water flooding from an indoor source. Each of these examples requires a unique approach to deal with in the field.
SERVPRO finds water protruding from broken indoor piping in company restrooms regularly; leaks produce significant amounts of damage from small areas. Businesses with cleaning storage areas that develop damage over extended periods of time, steadily weakening the structure and surrounding materials. Usually, after finding the source and repairing the damage, it is possible to recover from this type of flood damage rather quickly.
Storm Damage, generally caused by massive natural events that we have no control over. SERVPRO technicians often see damages to structural materials, exterior windows, roofing, and stucco walls that take damage from high winds or massive hail storms that do just enough damage to give heavy rain an opportunity to soak through, causing subsequent damage to affect other areas of a building, powerfully affecting your business.

What Can Close Doors in Commercial Fire Damage
8/16/2016 (Permalink)
SERVPRO Can Restore a Fire Damaged Commercial Building in Palm Coast.
Commercial Fire Damage Is Cleaned Up by SERVPRO
Every year across the United States, thousands of businesses take on heavy fire damage and are often forced to close down temporarily or permanently due to the smoke and fire. Whether through an accident, malicious arson, poor weather, or any other source, a fire in your business may mean the cessation of operations temporarily or for good. Even light fire damage can disrupt normal business and close doors until restorations are complete. Here are just some of the ways a fire can disrupt business in a commercial establishment.
Smoke
Smoke accompanies Palm Coast commercial fire damage of all kinds and often persists in its effects if not properly taken care of right away. Smoke is composed of microscopic particles that can embed themselves in everything from clothing to walls to floors. It gets everywhere. Smoke has a very noticeable and unpleasant smell, keeping customers and clients away.
Burnt-Out Material
Where a fire is burning and consuming material (fuel), there is typically heavy damage and charring. If we are forced to renovate and replace anything that is burnt following a fire, it is usually here, as total loss seldom occurs elsewhere. Even this can be cleaned and salvaged, however, and our expert technicians are trained to look out for anything restorable even in the most devastating of fires.
Ash and Soot
Ash and soot have a way of accumulating both in the affected area and throughout the building, and this is often the source of unnecessary distress for many business owners. Gray and black powder covering your workplace may look like massive damage, but our technicians can clean and work around even heavy soot and ash damage. Our IICRC Certified Fire & Smoke Damage Technicians (FSRT) utilize special dry sponges to wipe down soot coated surfaces. A repainting is much less expensive and time-consuming than replacing walls, floors, or ceilings.
Melted Materials
In a business, many materials can melt in a fire, from countertop appliances to fiberglass materials. Depending on the industry and material burned, these may present serious hazards to the lungs, nose, eyes, or just about anywhere else on your body. If you see anything melted in the building, take extreme caution around it, and make sure you have a mask covering your mouth (this is a good idea in general). The best advice is to leave the cleanup to the professionals to quickly restore your enterprise to its pre-loss condition.
SERVPRO of Flagler County is a professional, well-equipped local business with the personnel and equipment to take on the restoration of even the heaviest of commercial fires. Call us 24/7 at (386) 447-2202 for services or a quote.
Water Damage To Your Business Needs To Be Remedied FAST

Regular Roof Maintenance and Repair Can Prevent Water Damage
Professionals Can Get You Back To Business Quickly
Unexpected commercial water damage can occur rapidly with no warning. When an emergency strikes, call on us at SERVPRO to launch a rapid response with a team of experienced commercial water responders waiting to handle your emergency. Time is of the essence when predicting the sustainability of your commercial property.
Preventing Palm Coast water damage is critical to an organization's bottom line. The return on investment of preventative structural maintenance and inspections far outweighs the inconvenience and expense associated with commercial water damage. Regular inspections of the building's roof are necessary to identify leaks or signs of wear and tear. Worn rooftops, loose shingles, or missing shingles are a sign of advanced weathering and an increased potential for commercial water damage.
Despite best efforts and preventative maintenance, SERVPRO of Flagler County understands that unprecedented storm damage and rain can leave rooftops weak and subject to slow leaks. Severe weather and hurricane force winds can prematurely weather the life of the roof. When trees fall over during a storm and land on your building's roof, underlying water damage may occur. Over time, a commercial roof can develop a significant leak leading to flooding. Flooding can lead to water damage or destruction of computers, printers, and other electronic expensive equipment in the office. Papers and files may not be salvageable after commercial water damage.
We recognize that your company's efforts may not be able to be replaced when documents are unable to be salvaged. Our team of experts is available to make an initial assessment of the water damage, identify the source of the flooding, and develop a restoration plan. We will work with your insurance company and provide copies of our assessments, damage report, and restorative plan of action.
When your commercial water damage emergency occurs, contact SERVPRO of Flagler County to service your needs. We can be reached at (386) 447-2202.
Water Damage in Flagler Beach

Water Damaged Office After a Flood
Steps to Take Immediately After Water Damage in Your Business
Hopefully your business will never experience Flagler Beach commercial water damage, however, in case you do, it is important to know how to handle the situation before it happens so you are prepared if and when it does. Flood damage can cause structural concerns and several other issues, so there are steps to take immediately afterward so you can protect your business and employees.
Shut Off Potential Hazards
If it is safe to do so, you will want to make sure that you turn off any electricity to the affected areas. You don’t, however, want them to be turned on before you are ready, which risks mixing electricity and water or making a gas leak before the flood damage can be corrected.
When you call in professionals for help, the remediation company will also have special tools, such as a digital moisture meter, to find any signs of hidden moisture, such as behind walls, to make sure that they can completely dry out your business properly and avoid any mold from growing.
Make Sure to Protect Yourself
If you have to walk in any flood waters, wear sturdy shoes which will protect your feet from hidden debris in the water which could trip or cut you. Hip waders are a good idea as well, since flood waters can be contaminated, even if to the naked eye they look clean. Look out for snakes or other critters which have been displaced by the flood, and do not ever put your hands anywhere you cannot see first.
When all else fails, and you are not sure about going into your building, wait for the professional remediation company to arrive. They are aware of all the procedures and steps to take to keep themselves and others safe, plus will have all the protective gear to wear as they are checking everything out for you.
Pictures, Pictures, Pictures!
Make sure and document as much of the damage to your commercial property as thoroughly as you can. This will help you out when you are filing your claim with your insurance company for the water damage near Flagler Beach created by the flood. When you do re-enter your business, get photographic evidence of the damage that was left behind by the water, plus any water that is still there. Document all that you can and then speak with your insurance company in a prompt manner.
Salvage What you Can
Mold damage is very common after your business has experienced commercial water damage in Flagler Beach and only needs about twenty-four to forty-eight hours to start growing. The professional restoration company can assist you in this, but you will need to throw away anything that has been saturated for over forty-eight hours and figure out on a case to case basis what else can be saved or needs to be thrown away. Rugs and padding will always need to be tossed if they are damaged by flood waters, and you may need to get rid of things like insulation or drywall as well if they have become flood damaged. Any food which has been affected will also need to be thrown away if it’s come into contact with the flood waters, as the water from floods can carry plenty of contamination.
SERVPRO of Flagler County is a professional and local company in Flagler Beach who will quickly respond to your flood damage needs. When you experience such an event in Flagler county, we have the experience and resources to help. Contact us any time at (386) 447-2202.
Flagler Beach Fire Damage - Get Back to Business as Usual with Fire Damage Services in Flagler Beach
4/27/2016 (Permalink)
A Flagler Beach commercial fire can cause a considerable amount of damage to your place of business.
Call SERVPRO of Flagler County for Flagler Beach Commercial Fire Damage Services
Flagler Beach commercial fire damage services can help you restore your place of business so that work can continue as usual after a fire event. Even a small fire can cause your operations to cease for a period of time until the repair work has been completed, and you may wonder how long it will take until your business property is fully functional for your commercial needs again. While it can be stressful to deal with a fire at work, rest assured that professional services can help you restore the property so that operations can pick up again quickly.
The Damage Caused by a Commercial Fire
A Flagler Beach commercial fire can cause a considerable amount of damage to your place of business, even with a minor fire that is localized to a small area in your establishment. Because the water damage from the firefighters and the smoke damage from the fire can extend far beyond the area where the fire was contained, a significant portion of the property can be damaged even if the fire was very small in size. With larger fires, the damage can be even more widespread and destructive. Your property may be partially or entirely inoperable until the repair work has been completed.
The Significant Work Required to Repair Fire Damage
A fire in a Flagler Beach commercial property will cause a charred, burned mess for you to clean up, but the damage is more significant than this. With water and smoke damage to contend with, it will take hard work to repair Flagler Beach commercial fire damage. This may include drying out the property to remove traces of moisture from the firefighters' hoses, eliminating fire-retardant chemicals from the area and removing smoke from the drywall, furnishings and more. Some areas may be salvaged, but other materials may need to be scrapped and replaced with new materials. Determining what to salvage and what to replace can be difficult to do, and you understandably want optimal results while also containing costs as much as possible.
The Importance of Fast Results
Because Flagler Beach commercial fire damage affects your bottom line, you need quick results. Your business may not be producing a profit or may even be operating with a net loss until the damage is repaired, so time is of the essence. Professional services are the best answer.
After a commercial fire in your Flagler Beach property, contact SERVPRO of Flagler County for assistance. We are a local company that is available to respond to your request for service right away, and we will work diligently until the work is complete. SERVPRO Says Fire Extinguishers Help Prevent Business Losses
SERVPRO Offers Advice and Fire Damaging Restoration Services to Your Flagler Business
Any Flagler commercial fire damage that occurs can be devastating for a small business owner. Many owners have devoted their lives and money to their businesses. The most frequent external forces that harm a small business are water and fire damage, often occurring in tandem. SERVPRO offers some advice on steps you can take to help mitigate any damage that a fire may cause.
To prevent a fire from causing major damage to your business, start by using the highest quality materials when building or remodeling your establishment. Newer and higher quality materials are more fire retardant. Spending money up front to protect your investment and your business can save you time and money in the long run. But, even if you have a plan, reduce the chances of fire, and use high-quality materials, you may still be the unlucky recipient of a fire-damaged business. Use fire damage restoration professionals from SERVPRO to help you quickly reopen your doors for trade.
Our Fire Damage Restoration Professionals are experts in helping homes and businesses clean up after a fire or other natural disaster. We possess the industry leading equipment, experience, IICRC training, and customer service to get the job done right! Fires can cause several layers of damage to businesses. Flames can cause damage to the exterior of the structure. Smoke, soot and water damage (fire extinguishing efforts or burst superheated plumbing)) can be significant outcomes in the interior of your business. Clean up time will be longer and more expensive if you don't secure the services of professionals. Smoke, water, and fire damage may not destroy the structure but can damage office furniture, supplies, electronics, and inventory. Smoke odor removal, antifungal and antimicrobial fogging to mitigate mold growth and sanitation finish the Flagler fire damage restoration process.
Outline steps ahead of time for employees and clients for a rapid escape to safety. Always post critical data for all emergencies, such as escape routes and fire extinguisher locations in several places throughout your business. Emergency communication to you, the owner, and the local fire and police departments should be posted on walls and speed-dials. There are many smoke detectors and sensors that can help you protect your business and livelihood. Fire suppressant sprinkler systems may be suitable for your building. If you invest in prevention, it may save you a lot of money, alleviate stress, and maybe save lives.
SERVPRO hopes you never have to deal with the effects of Flagler fire damage to your place of business. We can act with you and your insurance company to promptly assess, clean and restore your business while saving you time and money. Commercial water damage in Palm Coast often originates from a roof leak. A flat roof can cause, in a large commercial warehouse or fabricating plant, water damage from non-containment of pooling rainwater. This covering protects the elements from gaining entrance from wind, rain, fire, and heat. Fortunately, in our climate, hail, ice, and snow are not destructive forces that can usually close a business. Of course, hurricanes and even tornadoes can be factors leading to business failures. This first line of defense, like our skin, protects the assets of your business while offering safety to employees, and customers. The roof is a very vulnerable part of the structure of a building because it is exposed to weather that can contribute to its the breakdown and deterioration.
A roof's job is to protect the building and its contents. Therefore, business owners would do well to incorporate a regular program that involves the inspection, maintenance and repair of the roof as needed. This will prolong the utility of the roof and ensure that it is protecting the business from any wind and water damage.
But roof problems do occur. And it is best to address roof issues before it is too late. There may be signs of serious roof problems that are clearly indicated inside the building. The presence of water stains on a ceiling could indicate the existence of a roof leak that is resulting in the penetration of water. It may also be the result of a leaking pipe or HVAC air handler. SERVPRO can quickly find the source of the water intrusion, stop it, and commence with the water extraction and drying and cleaning processes. Lost productivity, sales or service is lost revenue. Our skilled IICRC trained technicians can efficiently reopen your doors for business.
The appearance of mold indicates that the interior moisture levels are too high. This may be an indication that there is a problem with the roof. Regardless, this is an issue that should immediately be addressed. Often, mold remediation goes hand in hand with water damage restoration. Professional assistance mitigates downtime and the impact of potentially closing for repairs. A SERVPRO assessment and inspection are wise first steps to lessen adverse effects.
It is a good business decision to call in the professionals from SERVPRO when there is a leak leading to water damage in your Palm Coast commercial site. A peeled back flat roof from a hurricane to a minor leak from a vent can be handled by our skilled experts. Don't allow your roof to create havoc for your business. Call us to dry and restore your establishment "Like it never even happened."

Mold From a Vent Can Disrupt Your Tenants
In Hammock, SERVPRO Can Recondition a Mold Infestation in a Rental Unit
Hammock mold damage and related problems are not what you bargain for when you rent a home, apartment or a condo on the beach. You expect that the place will be warm, dry and that your belongings will be the same. You also expect that it will be a healthy environment for living, after all, you are paying enough money to your landlord for a pleasant, safe home. If your rental is hosting mold growth, not only are the fungi unsightly and musty smelling, but they can damage your personal belongs and produce adverse health effects.
As a tenant and as a landlord, it is the responsibility of both to make sure the residence is well maintained and clean. There are responsibilities of both parties to ensure the rented living space is kept dry and mold free. Both should strive to protect the property and thereby also protect health and safety.
Tennant – The tenant is living in the premises day-to-day and is the eyes and ears of the unit for the landlord. The renters also have the duty to act responsibly with how they live in the unit, being careful and taking precautions to keep the unit clean, use water responsibility and to notify the landlord if there are any problems, such as leaky pipes, overflowing toilets or leaking appliances. If mold is seen growing anywhere in a unit, the tenant needs to notify the landlord so it can be properly cleaned. Common places to find mold growth include:
• Around windowsills, rain or condensation
• In bathrooms
• On ceilings
• In closets or hidden wall voids
• On carpeting, that has been wet
• In the kitchen behind refrigerators or base cabinets
Landlords – Landlords should manage their commercial rental property and make sure tenants are living and treating the property with respect. It is the obligation of the landlord to fix leaky pipes right away. If an HVAC unit or toilet is leaking, a service man needs to repair or replace the malfunction, as well as do a thorough clean up of the area to prevent mold growth. In the case of an overflowing commode, call in SERVPRO technician to safely remove the contaminated water and sanitize with antimicrobial products. Our technicians can also inspect for mold and implement antifungal agents to stop any visible evidence of the fungi. If mold is present, or possible mold proliferation can occur, removing wet objects and properly discarding them is critical to preventing the mold from spreading. We can also utilize air movers, dehumidifiers, and air scrubbers to remedy mold growth, keeping your tenants happy, and your commercial property protected.
Telling your tenants to vent their home or condo out multiple times a week can help reduce the risk of mold growth. Oceanside living can result in excessive moisture leading to a conducive condition for mold growth. Windows and doors left open for even 20 minutes to refresh ambient air, can help. The use of dehumidifiers, especially in the summer months, is highly recommended. The A/C will not only make the rental more comfortable for your tenants, but it will reduce the relative humidity (RH) to ambient air levels of 60% or less. By working together, a landlord and a tenant can limit the effects of leaks, flooding and moisture build-up.
If mold damage in Hammock does appear to be a problem, call SERVPRO for a no cost estimate to validate the presence of mold and offer mold remediation for removal, drying, and sanitizing your rental unit. Suffering from a fire can be a major issue for any Bunnell business.
How to Deal with the Aftermath of a Fire in Your Business
Suffering from a fire can seem like an insurmountable issue for any Bunnell business. Hopefully, everyone makes it out safe and sound, but even a small fire can cause massive damage to your building, appliances, products and other possessions from the looming stench and harsh effects of smoke. Take the proper steps to protect what remains and clean up anything that may be experiencing Bunnell smoke or fire damage until our professional crews at SERVPRO can assess the situation, remove the smoke odors and clean up smoke and fire damage.
What You Should Do
Call SERVPRO for assistance as soon as possible. The smoke residue in your Bunnell home or business is corrosive, and the effects can start in as little as 72 hours. We have 24/7 emergency response crews around the country to get on the job as quickly as possible.
If it's at least 60 degrees outside, open the windows to start ventilating the rooms. Fresh air will be beneficial for both health and odor removal purposes.
Thoroughly clean off any items made of laminates, chrome, porcelain and aluminum to help prevent tarnishing and etching. Check if any items require specialized cleaning to ensure that the surface isn't damaged.
Using painters tape or masking tape and damp cheesecloth to cover the vents will help filter out soot that might be flowing through the ventilation system. If there are any open food packages in the affected areas, discard them immediately. Plants should be wiped off with a damp washcloth and brought outside for a while to get them fresh air and sunshine.
If the power needed to be shut off or went out during a Bunnell fire, clean out the refrigerators thoroughly and leave the doors open to air out any smoke odor. Any salvageable food items should be immediately put into a cooler or placed in or other refrigeration.
If there are clothing items that have been affected by smoke damage, we can refer you to professional restoration dry cleaners to get the smell out safely.
What You Shouldn't Do
Refrain from touching anything with your bare hands as the oils in your skin may cause further damage to the walls, woodwork, and upholstery. Wear rubber gloves at all times.
Don't attempt to wash the walls as you may end up soaking the soot into the paint, making it harder to remove. Additionally, do not try to clean upholstery or carpets with sprays or vacuums as this can also make the soot problem worse.
Don't use electrical devices or touch power cords without checking if they're safe.
Avoid using ceiling-mounted fixtures such as lights and fans if the ceiling is wet.
